About YCEF

The activism in Ventura County is scattered, but plentiful. Young activists around VC often experience burnout from being the only politically active person their friends know, discouragement from ageism and other forms of discrimination that force young activists to leave organizations, and frustration from the isolation many of us struggle with in this post-covid era. Despite these challenges, young activists continue their advocacy work because of their passion to change the world.

This disconnect between young activists is a major barrier to achieving our goals. There are multiple organizations that have the same objective, yet don't know about each other's existence. YCEF wants to bring these activists together in a single space to ease the burden and isolation activists are feeling, so we may work more effectively to make our community an inclusive space.

Within Ventura County, there are hundreds of young civically engaged people, yet many of us can only name a few. While the political organizers in Ventura County are very diverse, many that gain recognition tend to be white or white-passing (such as Aleyah & Jack), and benefit from the privilege our media grants them. Activists of color are often pushed out of the spotlight despite doing a majority of the advocacy in Ventura County. YCEF hopes to shine a light on as many activists in Ventura County as possible, and hopefully raise awareness about the vast amount of queer, BIPOC, immigrant, women, disabled, and other youth activists that are making the changes to move our country forward.

We are stronger together, and we hope you'll participate in this amazing opportunity to make friends, support your community, and grow your network!
